Little Tikes

You’re probably already familiar with the toy brand Little Tikes, as it’s one of the most popular brands on the market. Little Tikes manufacture toys for very young children and infants, for both in the house and in the garden. Most of the toys they produce are simple, plastic moulded toys, some of the most popular being the turtle sandbox and the Little Tikes kitchen.

The company is relatively new to the market. It was founded in 1969 in the USA by Thomas G. Murdough Jr. The company went from strength to strength until it was taken over in the mid-eighties, by Rubbermaid. However, Murdough stayed with the company as the president and manager for another five years.

The company has been taken over numerous times, notably in 2006 by MGA Entertainment. But this has not affected the sales of the Little Tikes brand. When the company reached its twenty-fifth year of business in 2004, the famous Cozy Coupe (a yellow and red plastic car you’ve probably seen other kid’s on the street playing with from time to time) had sold almost six million, outselling a great many ‘real’ cars like Ford and Toyota.

The company traditionally only used bright plastics in the manufacturing of their toys, but after twenty-five years, radio frequency was added to one toy, the Magicook Kitchen, which brought the company well and truly into twenty-first century.

The company prides itself on the highest quality plastic toys that are robust and long-lasting. The colours used in production are bright and fun, which appeals to children’s imaginations and creative play time.

Toys available on the market at the moment from Little Tikes include a vast array of products. There are toys for babies, including activity centres, trucks, sports toys, and musical toys, and toys aimed at older children too, including art boxes, ride-on toys, and furniture. They also produce a great many outdoor toys, such as climbing frames, Wendy houses, activity gyms, swing sets, and sand and water boxes. The prices of their toys can range from as little as twenty pounds, to upwards of a few hundred, all of which are categorised by age. The Little Tikes Company has factories all over the world. Their biggest is in Ohio, but there are also quite a few in Asia and Europe, which distribute the products worldwide to an array of happy customers.

Little Tikes are keen on innovation and customer satisfaction. Although it’s a relatively safe brand, there have been some product recalls over the years. One of the most recent is the Little Tikes Chit ‘N Chat Toy Cell Phone. Another is the 2-in-1 Snug ‘N Secure Swing, which was not actually as secure as it claimed. There had been reports of the swing buckles breaking, and the restraint straps coming loose, meaning children were at risk of falls. However, Little Tikes always try to keep their customers up to date with any recalls. Further information can be found on the Little Tikes website at
